Viewing checkdisk (CHKDSK) log after a scan

I had a user run a checkdisk scan because he was having some unexplained issues happening.  He scheduled the scan and it ran that night when he rebooted his PC, however once it completed it booted back into Windows not allowing us to view the results.

So how do you view the checkdisk scan results if your not sitting at the PC when it finishes?

  1. Launch PowerShell as Administrator
  2. Enter the following command – get-winevent -FilterHashTable @{logname=”Application”; id=”1001″}| ?{$_.providername –match “wininit”} | fl timecreated, message > C:chkdsk.txt
  3. Close PowerShell Window
  4. Navigate to your C: and open the chkdsk.txt file in a text editor
